Windsor Fire & Rescue welcomes our 2008 Recruit Class

May 5, 2008:
Windsor Fire & Rescue Services would like to welcome and introduce our Recruit Class of 2008. They began their 10-week training program on May 5, 2008. During the program, they will learn many aspects of firefighting including personal protective equipment, breathing apparatus, water supply, incident management system, fire behaviour, ladders, forcible entry, ventilation, suppression, hazardous materials, auto extrication, first aid/CPR/Defibrillation and the list goes on. Please visit our site over the next eight weeks to view pictures of them in action!

Kyle is 30 years old, married with two children.  He was a paramedic for twelve years before joining our team. 
“I am very excited to be starting my new career at Windsor Fire & Rescue.”

James Askin

James Askin

James is also 30 years old and has been married to Alison for almost one year.  He was a teacher at Century Secondary School and a volunteer paramedic for Amherstburg ambulance. 
“I am so happy to become part of the Windsor Fire & Rescue team and would like to thank my wife, family and friends for their support.”

Paul-David (P.D.) Pinsonneault

Paul-David (P.D.) Pinsonneault

P.D. is 25 years old and engaged.  He was born and raised in Essex County.  He worked in the research and development division of Tregaskiss Ltd. for the past 5 years.  He was also a volunteer firefighter in Lakeshore for 8 years.  He enjoys boating and working out. 

“After 5 years of trying, I’ve finally made it!  Thanks to all of my family and friends for putting up with me over that time!  And a huge thanks to my fiancé Michelle for all the help and encouragement she has given me.” 

Chad Turner

Chad Turner

Chad is 24 years old and does have a girlfriend!  He also worked at Tregaskiss for the past 4 years.  He enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, and golf.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Windsor Fire & Rescue family.  I have been trying to be a firefighter for the past 4 years and want to thank my family, friends, and all who helped and believed in me.  I would also like to thank the instructors from St. Clair College for their help and experience.”

Jason Blanchard

Jason Blanchard

Jason is 21 years old (the youngest firefighter at Windsor Fire & Rescue) and he also has a girlfriend!!  Jason was a roofer/construction worker for the past 8 years.  He is a graduate from the pre-service firefighter course at Durham College.  He loves hockey and squash.

“I would like to thank my parents, family, girlfriend, her parents, teachers and friends for all of their continuous help and support……I made it!!!”

Aaron Howson

Aaron Howson

Aaron is 32 years old, married for 9 years and has with 3 children, Griffin 6, Grace 4, and Ethan 2.  He worked at AGS Automotive before coming to Windsor Fire & Rescue and was a volunteer for the LaSalle Fire Service for 9 years.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998 from the University of Windsor.

“After 5 years of attempting to become a firefighter, I am honoured to represent Windsor Fire & Rescue.  Thank you to my family and friends who supported me in attaining my dream.”
Joe Paonessa

Joe Paonessa

Joe is 22 years old and engaged with the wedding planned for July, 2010.  He was an apprentice electrician and attending the University of Windsor prior to be being hired at Windsor Fire.  He likes to play hockey and has done so for the past 13 years.

“I was jumping for joy when I found out I was hired!  I want to thank my fiancé for all of her support during the application process.”
Ian Ellwood

Ian is 24 years old and SINGLE!!!  He graduated from the Paramedic Program at St. Clair College and has been a paramedic for the past 2 years.  He likes to play volleyball and baseball.

“I would like to thank my family and friends for their support in pursuing my dream job.  I have been around firefighting my entire life and am glad I can continue the tradition in my family.”
Shay Currie

Shay Currie

Shay is 34 years old and is married with one son, Simone.  He worked at Nemak of Canada for the past 8 years.  He graduated from the University of Windsor in 2000 with a Masters in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education.  He enjoys spending time with his family and playing sports. 

“It is an honour to be joining such a great team and serving this great City.”
Peter Topolovec

Peter Topolovec

Peter is 38 years old.  He is married to Poppy and has 3 boys; Ted 11, Brody 8, and Luke 5.  He came from the City of Windsor Public Works Environmental Division.  He is a graduate of the St. Clair College Firefighter Pre-Entry Program and several other fire related courses and has been a long time volunteer with Victim Services of Windsor and Essex County.

“Becoming a firefighter with Windsor Fire & Rescue was a goal that I could not have reached without the support and love of my wife, sons, family and friends.  I look forward to expanding my family to include my fellow members at Windsor Fire.  I feel that all the good things that I have put out there over the years have come back to me one hundred times over, which I am sincerely grateful.”
Damian Livingston

Damian Livingston

Damian is 27 years old and yes, he’s taken!!!  He has a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Windsor and was a paramedic for the past 2 years.  He enjoys playing hockey and golf.

“Thanks to my family and friends for supporting me along the way.  It’s great to be a Windsor Firefighter!!”
Trevor Mulder

Trevor Mulder

Trevor is 27 years old and is married to his lovely wife Dailah and they have 4 children; Jaiden 9, Traya 3, Trevor Jr (2) and Melah 3 months.  He has a small army at home but having a wonderful wife makes it all so great.

“Dailah, thanks for all your support and for standing beside me all the way.  In all things to God be the glory.”
