Fire and Rescue Fire & Rescue
This department must strive to provide an adequate, effective and efficient fire suppression program designed to control and extinguish fires for the purpose of protecting people from injury, death and property loss. The range of services provided by this Division are a result of a detailed risk assessment process and coincide with the objectives of the Community Strategic Plan.
Prevention and Education Prevention / Education
This component of the Fire Prevention, Public Education and Fire Investigation Services enforces various codes, performs routine safety and complaint inspections, deals with mandated code compliance issues, enforces municipal by-laws, issues permits, reviews and approves construction plans, site plans and subdivision/development agreements.
Apparatus and Equipment Apparatus / Equipment
Emergency Apparatus and Equipment Services performs fleet and equipment maintenance programs, both routine and emergency including providing annual testing, mechanical worthiness, pump capacity and certification, specification development, acceptance testing and approval of new apparatus and equipment, maintaining specialized equipment, all of which must meet Ministry of Labour requirements.
Administration Administration
Administrative Services provides input into Provincial and Federal legislation, municipal by-laws, codes and standards affecting fire and rescue services. In addition, the Chief and Deputy Chief provide advice to Council on fire protection and prevention issues, as well as emergency planning.
Communications Communications
The Windsor Fire and Rescue Emergency Communications Services is a state of the art resource centre that provides dispatching services to the City of Windsor and surrounding municipalities within Essex County, including Lakeshore, Essex, Tecumseh and a portion of Amherstburg.
Emergency Planning Emergency Planning
The City of Windsor is strengthening its ability to respond to natural or man-made disasters and acts of terrorism through the development of specialized emergency teams that are trained to provide a first line of defence when such unfortunate events might occur.
Training and Recruiting Training / Recruiting
Training Services develops programs and practices for trainer/facilitators, co-ordinates core curriculum, develops specialized development programs, delivers hands-on training, supervises training drills and provides support and direction. These members also develop incident management and accountability systems and procedures, and co-ordinate guidelines for various disciplines.
Investigation Investigation
This component of the Fire Prevention, Public Education and Fire Investigation Services enforces various codes, investigate fires to determine cause and origin, assess code compliance, assess fire suppression effectiveness, determine compliance and effectiveness of suppression features, interact with Ontario Fire Marshal investigators, support criminal prosecutions, consult with police and other agencies and provide forensic services.
