Training Services develops programs and practices for trainer/facilitators, co-ordinates core curriculum, develops specialized development programs, delivers hands-on training, supervises training drills and provides support and direction. These members also develop incident management and accountability systems and procedures, and co-ordinate guidelines for various disciplines. They are responsible for training and examination of new recruits and all candidates for promotion to officers ranks. They co-ordinate the training activities of numerous instructors within the Department who provide specialized training in the areas of hazardous materials response, first aid and CPR, semi-automatic defibrillation, auto extrication, rapid intervention, and land based water rescue. They provide on-scene safety services at major emergencies. They maintain records to ensure all training is current and compliant with relevant existing legislation. An adequate training and development program is a mandatory requirement of all fire departments under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
