Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With! is the official theme for Fire Prevention Week this year.

This year's campaign is designed to educate people about the importance of smoke alarms and encourages everyone to take the steps necessary to update and maintain their home smoke alarm protection.

The following events are planned for Fire Prevention Week:

Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Canadian Tire Fire Safety Day –
Fire personnel will be available to provide fire safety information as well as tours of fire apparatus at all three Canadian Tire locations (Canadian Tire is a corporate partner of the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council):
  • 4150 Walker Road
  • 2650 Tecumseh Rd. W.
  • 8505 Tecumseh Rd. E.
Sunday, October 3, 2010 
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services has partnered with the Windsor Spitfires and Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor Essex. In addition to the great activities planned by Big Brothers Big Sisters Windsor Essex, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will have fire apparatus on display and available to tour from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Ticket holders can participate in the skate after the game with the Spitfires, Fire Chief Fields and Sparky the Fire Dog.


Monday, October 4, 2010 - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Open Houses
– All eight Windsor fire halls will be open to tour and fire inspectors will be available to answer your fire safety questions. The public is encouraged to stop by their neighbourhood fire hall.

Fire hall addresses:
  • Station 1 – 815 Goyeau
  • Station 2 – 2296 Richmond
  • Station 3 – 2750 Ouellette
  • Station 4 – 2600 College
  • Station 5 – 1905 Cabana W.
  • Station 6 – 5650 Tecumseh E.
  • Station 7 – 254 Lauzon
  • Station 8 – 2650 Airport Rd.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010 
Meals on Wheels, Smoke Alarm Giveaway
– Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will be partnering with Meals on Wheels volunteers. While volunteers drop off meals, fire personnel will be checking their smoke alarms to ensure residents are protected with working smoke alarms.
