All events are Open. An 'Open' event is unrestricted to all competitors without regard to geographic location. A precise definition of eligibility for each venue will be posted on the current years Venues on the Web site.
Teams are urged to sign up early since enrollment will be limited. All members on a team must be from the same department. Registration will be my mail, Email (via web site) or fax. Telephone enrollment will not be accepted. If enrollment is at a maximum for any given event multiple teams from the same department will have to be limited to three (3). Teams should be registered three (3) weeks prior to event in order to avoid a $50. late registration fee. Three weeks is required so that acknowledgement and event information may be returned via first class mail.
A team or individual is considered to be registered upon receipt of a completed Registration Form. The registration must include a check or departmental purchase order. A completed ParQ & Risko Form and Competitor Bio for each Competitor should also accompany the Registration Form. The entry fee for Regional Events is $203.30 for teams and $48.15 for individuals. Entry fee for Nationals is $251.45 for teams and $58.85 for individuals. Acknowledgement will be sent via first class mail to Team Captains.
Refund requests will be honored 14 days prior to competition; thereafter no refund.
The Waiver and Release form must be signed by every competitor prior to participation. No one is allowed to participate without signing this form. The form stipulates that this is a "drug free" competition; by execution of the form competitors acknowledge they are not using any illegal drug. You will receive & complete the waiver on the day of the event.
FireFit will prepare a team roster which must be verified by the team captain at the Registration Confirmation Meeting held at the event site the night before each competition. Changes can be made only by the captain who acknowledges the accuracy of the team roster sheet by signing the form. Each competitor will be required to complete a ParQ & Risko Form as well as a Competitor Bio prior to competition.
Teams assign their own individual start order on the Registration Form. Every attempt will be made by FireFit to honour the requested order, but cannot be guaranteed. The "next up" competitor/team must be in the staging area in full turnout gear when the preceding participant is at the start line. The start order is established by FireFit with competitors going through the course consecutively based upon their assigned number. Faster competitors may be assigned to the final heats.
Competition Categories
Categories for which recognition and awards will be given include; Top 3 Teams, Top 3 Individuals, Fastest Female, Fastest Over 40 & Fastest Over 50.
A special competition at the Canadian Fire Chiefs Conference Event or Canadian Nationals will be held for the Fastest Chief Category.
Event Organization and Management
All competitors are expected to be present at the event site one hour before the event starts for check-in.
Substitutions due to injury, transfers, illness, shift changes or the like are permitted but must be made during Registration Confirmation the day before the event. Substitution within a team that has qualified for Canadian Nationals or World's is allowed provided that at least 3 of the original members are still on the team and the substitute is from the same department.
Each competitor will be assigned a number which will be displayed on the Scott AirPak high pressure breathing apparatus.
Team times are computed by combining the times of each team's 3 fastest competitors.
Team Captains are responsible to ensure that all team members are present and in possession of official turn-out gear that is compliant with NFPA standards in effect at the time of the competition. Hoods and shields will not be required.
Team Captains must keep their personnel OFF the course when they are not competing. Penalties may be assessed a competitor or team for violation of this rule.
Disputes regarding penalties will be resolved by the Team Captain and the Course Marshal. Disrupting the competition will result in a team's disqualification. All Course Marshal decisions are final.
Awards
Team Captains will sign a confirmation receipt & pick-up their teams Award Package from the Registration Area after the conclusion of the Challenge. The Awards Package will include an official Challenge T-Shirt for each team member who competed that day. Any team members who do not compete will not receive T-Shirts. Items not claimed on the day of competition will NOT be sent to competitors.
Pins will be awarded to competitors with the following times: Bronze: sub 4 minutes, Silver: Sub 3 minutes Gold: Sub 2:30, Sub 2 Pin: Sub 2 minutes. Helmet stickers will be awarded to those competitors with sub 5 minute times. Pins will be distributed after the Awards Ceremony.
Results will be distributed at the end of each event to Team Captains and posted on the FireFit web site (www.firefit.com).
The top 3 teams will receive wall plaques; the first place team will receive Combat Challenge Regional Winner shirts.; The top finisher in each individual category will receive a Wall Plaque.
Other prizes may be awarded by Sponsors on an event by event basis. FireFit assumes no responsibility for the delivery of these awards. Prizes may be limited for multiple winners.
Canadian Nationals
Teams who have competed with a team time of 9 minutes or less will qualify for the Canadian National Championships. Teams who have placed 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in their designated Regional will receive automatic byes into the Final Competition Day. Competitors from each Individual Category will qualify for the Canadian Nationals by placing in the top 3 in their Category within their Region or based on the following qualifying times:
Men < 3:00 minutes
Women < 6:00 minutes
Over 40 < 3:30 minutes
Over 50 < 4:45 minutes
Individuals on teams who are also eligible for consideration within the individual categories will run with their teams. Their times will count in both the team competition and the individual competition.
World Challenge
The top 3 Canadian Teams at the Canadian National Championships receive a bye into the final day of World Challenge. All Canadian teams that go sub - 7:00 at the Canadian National Championships are invited to World Challenge, as 'Wild Card Teams'.
The top 5 ranked U.S. Teams from the 99 U.S. Regionals will qualify for World Challenge (Canadian Teams are not eligible for these byes). Twelve teams from the 'Wild Card' playoffs will advance to the Final Competition Day. Individual competitors from each individual category will qualify for World Challenge based on the following times:
Men on non-qualifying teams < 2:00 minutes
Women < 6:00 minutes
Over 40 < 3:00 minutes
Over 50 < 4:45 minutes
These rules and regulations supercede all previous versions and may be amended as necessary by FireFit. competitors are responsible for knowing the rules. Ignorance does not excuse a violation.

Post Competition
Drink plenty of water. Keep walking to aid in recovery. Your blood will return faster to pre-competition levels if you walk vigorously rather than sit down.
Completely avoid the consumption of alcohol for at least 48 hours. Alcohol will exacerbate dehydration.
Avoid the use of any over the counter medication for 48 hours (aspirin, Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Medipren,Tylenol, decongestants, etc.)
Amphetamines, ephedrine and related substances, including all illegal drugs should be completely avoided.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
Although it is unlikely that any significant medical problems will develop, we ask you to watch for the following warning signs:
Nausea and vomiting that persists beyond the competition.
Feeling lightheaded, dizzy, confused, disoriented, or having poor co-ordination after leaving the competition site.
Trouble breathing or low back pain after leaving the test site.
A change in the colour of the urine to an un-naturally dark colour (sometimes resembling cola).
Decreased amounts of urine despite drinking plenty of fluid.
Severe muscle tenderness that persists longer than 24 hours.
Weakness that persists longer than 24 hours.
If you develop any of these symptoms, please see a physician immediately. You should tell the physician that you participated in the Challenge. It is very important for you or your attending physician to call FireFit for more information.
